Amazon.com Product Description The Omron HR-100C Heart Rate Monitor is easy to program and a cinch to wear with a ventilated watch band. Knowing your heart rate is important because if you're working out too hard, your activity can actually become counter productive and strain or damage muscles. Monitor your heart rate with Omron's HR-100C. View larger. | To achieve an effective workout, no matter what the aerobic activity, you must maintain your heart rate at a proper level for a minimum of 20 minutes. In general, the proper level falls between 65 percent-85 percent of your maximum heart rate. To ensure you don't drop above or below your proper level, the HR-100C is built with an alarm option that indicates low and high heart rates. Omron includes a chest transmitter belt with the wristwatch-style monitor. This transmitter sends data to the receiver on your wrist at a distance up to 98 feet (30 meters). The HR-100C is built with a backlight function for exercising after nightfall, and it also displays time of day and a daily reminder alarm feature. Also included is a mounting bracket that makes it easy to attach the watch receiver to most treadmills and bicycles and a soft, zippered storage case. Bioelectrical Impedance (BI) is considered one of the most accurate and accessible methods of screening body fat. Muscles, blood vessels and bones are body tissues having a high water content that conduct electricity easily. Body fat is tissue that has little electric conductivity. The monitor sends an extremely weak electrical current through your body to determine the amount of fat tissue. The weak electrical current is not felt while operating the Body Fat Analyzer. The monitor is calculated by a formula that includes five factors; electric resistance, height, weight, age and gender. What is visceral fat? Visceral fat is located around the organs. Too much visceral fat is thought to be closely linked to increased level of fat in the bloodstream, which can lead to common conditions such as high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Sedentary life style causes excess visceral fat, and exercise can reduce it quicker than subcutaneous fat (fat located under skin). What is resting metabolism? Resting metabolism is the energy to maintain vital functions and it counts 60 to 70% of total energy consumption. Knowing your resting metabolism can help your dietplan. If you can increase daily activity while keeping food intake at resting metabolism level, you can lose weight. What is skeletal muscle? Skeletal muscle is muscle attached to the bones that is used to move the body. If you do weight loss without exercise, you may lose skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is important to maintain your resting metabolism as well as your functionality. Monitoring skeletal muscle during weight loss is key to avoid weight rebound in the future.

I'm impressed March 22, 2010 Thomas J. Leader (Putney, Vt. United States) I do not write reviews, but this item deserves a review. I went through about five Timex HRMs before this one and they barely lasted one year, then I decided to buy this one. I thought at this price I could afford to buy one every year. This monitor doesn't have a lot of features, but it's a $30 item! I looked at a couple of the one star ratings on this watch that say it has a hard time locking on to your heart rate, this may be true to an extent, but you just need to give it that 5-7 minutes in warm up to become accurate. It will work great as soon as your heart, and it, is warmed up. I've found all monitors to be like this.
The main reason I'm writing this review is that I've been training with this monitor for the last THREE years 4-6 times per week for nine months out of the year and this monitor is as good as it was when I got it, and I'll get another when this one decides it doesn't want to work any more.
heart rate monitor March 20, 2010 Melvin Levendorf (Deltona Florida) Since most heart rate monitors that are on the treadmills don't work, it helps to have one tha works. This one works very well and can be put to use on a bicycle etc. It gives a ongoing rate and is very acurate. M. Levendoref M.D.
So far, so good! March 19, 2010 Goth Hippy (Florida) I just got this yesterday, and used it during my almost 40 minute step workout. So far, it works great! Very easy to use, the instructions are clear. You just wet the conducters to get a reading (doesn't take much at all!) and away you go. I set up the target heart rate zone (I'm trying to burn fat, so I set it b/w 60% and 74%). Works great! It beeped when it was out of range, and I was able to hear it over my step aerobic DVD (and it's at a loud enough volume) so all in all, it does exactly what I need it to - definitely worth the money!
I'm surprised at all the negative reviews, quite frankly. But, I saw similar reviews with the same complaints for the much, much more expensive monitors as well, so you can't please everyone!
But for me, it works fine, and would definitely recommend it.
EDIT: I just wanted to add that I was skeptical about using the chest strap with the monitor - I thought it would be uncomfortable, but I found it was quite comfortable. After you put it on, and adjust the strap properly, it's easy to forget you have it on, especially when you're working out. So again, a very good buy, and you can't beat the price - I'm going to have to check out Omron's pedometers as well...
I really wanted to like this heart rate monitor, *but*... March 19, 2010 uncle-buck (Houston, TX USA) the heart rate readings were erratic and inconsistent. Also, the alarm letting you know when you are outside of your heart rate training zone is barely audible.
The controls are nice, and the transmitter and receiver are very comfortable to wear.
Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros. It's going back to Amazon.com.
works great March 18, 2010 GC (Grapeland, TX) Everyon overthe age of 60 needs one if you want to maintain a healthy life style without damaging that old ticker.

Vitamin Supplements
There are a number of essential vitamins
that the body needs to function properly and it is possible to take
these in the form for vitamin supplement. The majority of people do not
have a balanced diet and they may be lacking in certain vitamins which
means that they require a vitamin supplement to ensure that they do not
have a deficiency of an essential vitamin. A health professional or
dietary technician is the best person to give advice on any vitamin
supplement that a person should take. It is important to seek
professional advice before taking any vitamin supplement. This is
because there are some vitamins that can be toxic if too much is
consumed and a vitamin supplement may not be appropriate if there is
enough of the vitamin already in the food a person eats.
Some categories of people may require more types of vitamin supplement
than others. Vegetarians are often deficient in certain vitamins that
are only found in animal products, for example, and a vitamin supplement
is the ideal solution to this problem. Vegetarians do need to be aware
that some vitamin supplement manufacturing processes involve animal
products and it is important for them to read the labels. A large number
of synthetic vitamin supplement products are available which will enable
a vegetarian to take them without contravening their dietary beliefs or
needs.

Children will often need a vitamin supplement, especially when they are
extremely young. This is because a lot of children do not eat a
sufficient variety of foods in their early years and a vitamin
supplement can help compensate for this natural deficiency. Breast
feeding has long been recommended as a source of all the essential
nutrients but women who choose not to or are unable to bottle feed may
be concerned as to whether their baby needs a vitamin supplement. The
large majority of baby milk formulas contain additional vitamins to
prevent the need for a vitamin supplement to be given. It is important
to discuss any concerns over the need for a baby or child to take a
vitamin supplement with a health professional to ensure that the correct
solution is found.
Elderly people or those suffering from certain diseases or illnesses are
other groups of people that may need to take a vitamin supplement. The
body may often need a vitamin
supplement to compensate for a person not
being able to consume the recommended daily allowance of certain
vitamins through their normal diet.
